Look at Jesus

  • His love — Jesus' love meets us before we have cleaned ourselves up. Why does seeing Jesus' love make honest repentance possible?
  • His compassion — Jesus sees weakness and brokenness and responds with compassion. When you fail, is your instinct to move toward Jesus or hide from Him? Why?
  • His righteousness and goodness — Encountering Jesus also exposes what is not right in us. What happens when we emphasize Jesus' compassion but avoid His righteousness?
  • His grace — Grace is received, not earned. Can you see His amazing grace for you? What makes grace difficult to receive?
  • His forgiveness — In Jesus there is cleansing, redemption, and belonging. What hope does forgiveness give someone who has been hiding?

Look within

  • Not: What should somebody else repent of? What is Jesus bringing into the light in me?
  • What am I hiding?
  • What do I need to confess, turn from, or bring into the light?

Look to each other

  • What makes confession and repentance difficult in community?
  • How can this group become a place of grace and truth rather than hiding?

Look ahead

  • Complete: Jesus, because I see Your __________, I no longer need to hide __________.

Pray together

Jesus, give us courage to see ourselves through Your eyes. Bring what is hidden into the light, and help us receive Your grace and forgiveness.
